What is Mold?
Mold is everywhere. Microscopic spores floating around outside, landing on you, your belongings, your pets. Mold travels through open windows and open doors. It is on the bottom of your shoes. Mold is just part of our natural world.
Mold eats organic matter, meaning anything with particles that were once, or are still alive: dirt, skin cells, cotton, cardboard, dust, hair, paper, wood, insulation, drywall, carpeting, adhesives, and paper products contain starch, cellulose, or lignin.
Mold needs two things to grow: water and food. Most of the mold spores floating around inside your house end up not finding food and water, and they simply die.
With regard to the food source, you don't have a lot of control. Unless your house is built completely of metal or plastic or glass, it contains plenty of food sources for mold to feed from.
Mold In Bathrooms
Bathroom molds can often be seen growing specifically on walls and showers. The main reason is that water or moisture is always present on them. Very few bathrooms escape the dreaded black mold fungus.
Black mold is notoriously difficult to control and get rid of. So, you need to create conditions that mold cannot tolerate. Either eliminate the water or the food source and you eliminate the mold problem.
Mold growing in your bathroom is undesirable for several reasons. First, bathroom mold is unsightly. It finds a nice damp corner of your shower or your walls and begins to grow along corners and cracks, joints and seals. It loves to follow the lines of silicon sealer and grout between ceramic tiles. And, gets inside the silicon sealer; even the fungal resistant kind.
Mold grows slowly at first; but the bigger the bathroom mould patch gets the faster it grows. If you don't respond quickly to mold in your bathroom, it will be all over before you get a handle on it.
Mold also introduces an unhealthy element into your home and atmosphere. An excessive amount of mold in your home can aggravate allergic reactions, athsma, and cause several health-related issues, including coughing, difficulty breathing, eye irritation and lung infections. In severe cases certain types of mold can produce toxins that are deadly to you and your family.
Mold in the bathroom can spread to other parts of your home when water gets on the floor from the sink, tub, or from the toilet. If water gets on the floor from the toilet, it is because it has overfilled or backed up, which can cause water to run all over the floor. From there water can get into the cracks at the bottom of the walls, can seep into the wood around the sink, and get under the linoleum on the floor. It can cause mold to grow around the tub, toilet, and on the shower curtains.
Mold can get into the bathroom walls; and up into the ceiling; which can stain the ceiling and spread to other parts of your home. If you are experiencing an overgrowth of mold, be sure to check the rooms near the bathroom or any rooms connected to the bathroom for moisture issues and mold.
Moisture can travel to other rooms and form mold under the carpets, walls, floors, and other places that you might not know about. Call the mold professionals to test the house and check for mold growth.
Bathroom Mould Removal
If there is overgrowth of mould in the bathroom, everything will have to be torn out, replaced, and air vents installed for proper ventilation. Fixing mold in your bathroom calls for a highly effective bathroom mould removal process.
Don't be fooled into thinking a simple bathroom mould removal and a quick refresher paint remodeling job will fix your mold problem. It won't. Paint will not kill mold, and the coating it creates over the mold will only make it harder to kill the source and make it harder to remove.
After you invest time and money into remodeling, you will end up with the black mold returning. You need to make sure you have taken careful steps to completely eliminate all of the existing mold first and are preventing new mold from forming.
Consider hiring a professional contractor like Masters Remediation Services, to get rid of your bathroom mold infestation.
